Your information

Website Privacy Notice

This notice explains how personal information may be handled when you visit the Harlow Counselling website. It relates to use of this website rather than information collected and held as part of counselling or psychotherapy.

Who is responsible for this website?

Harlow Counselling is operated by Susana Serer. I am the data controller for personal information processed through this website and I am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). My ICO registration number is pending following a recent registration.

If you have a question about privacy on this website, email hello@harlowcounselling.co.uk.

Information collected when you visit

The website is hosted by Hostinger. Like most hosting providers, Hostinger may process technical information when you visit the site, such as your IP address, browser or device information, the date and time of a request, and server or security logs. This information may be used to deliver the website, maintain its security and reliability, and diagnose technical problems.

Website analytics

This website uses Google Analytics 4 to help me understand how people use the site, for example which pages are visited, how visitors arrive at the website, and general information about devices and browsers. I use these statistics to understand the performance of the website and improve it.

Google Analytics is not loaded until you choose Allow analytics in the website's cookie choices. If you choose No thanks, Google Analytics is not loaded. The Analytics configuration used on this site disables Google Signals and advertising personalisation features.

You can change your choice at any time by using the Cookie Choices link in the footer. If you turn analytics off after previously allowing it, the website removes the Google Analytics cookies it can identify from this site.

Google Search Console may also be used to understand how the website appears and performs in Google Search. Search Console does not itself place Google Analytics tracking code on this website for visitors.

Cookies and similar technologies

The website stores a small preference on your device so it can remember whether you allowed or declined analytics. This is used only to remember your privacy choice. If you allow analytics, Google Analytics may set cookies such as _ga and a property-specific _ga_* cookie to distinguish visits and produce website usage statistics.

Contacting me from this website

This website does not currently use a contact form or online booking system. It provides links that allow you to contact me by email, SMS or WhatsApp. When you choose one of these options, you leave the website or open a separate communication service, and the information you send is processed through that service.

Please keep your first message brief and only include information you feel comfortable sending electronically. Information collected as part of an enquiry or subsequent counselling relationship is governed by the relevant practice and client privacy arrangements rather than this website-only notice.

Third-party services and links

The website contains links to third-party websites and services, including WhatsApp, the Counselling Directory, the NHS, Samaritans and the Information Commissioner's Office. Those organisations are responsible for their own websites and privacy practices.

How long website information is kept

Technical and security information held by the hosting provider is retained according to its service and security arrangements. Google Analytics information is retained according to the retention settings configured for this Analytics property. I use Analytics information for understanding and improving this website, rather than for advertising or profiling individual visitors.

Your rights

UK data protection law gives you rights in relation to your personal information. Depending on the circumstances, these can include rights to access your information, ask for inaccurate information to be corrected, request erasure or restriction, and object to certain uses of your information.

If you have a concern about how your personal information is being handled in connection with this website, please contact me first so I can try to resolve it. You also have the right to raise a concern with the Information Commissioner's Office.

Changes to this notice

I may update this notice when the website or the services it uses change. The latest version will always be published on this page.
